So...Wheezer did something amazing last week and in my sickness I failed to mention it. Speaking of being sick, sickness does horrible things to my poor dog's mental status. After being home Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and by Wednesday she had a horrible case of cabin fever (which continued today since I didn't venture out into the world today but slept and medicated and tried to fight germs all day, again). I would wake up to stumble to the kitchen, take more medicine and go back to sleep but she was right there, jumping on my face in bed, jumping on my legs walking around my house, sitting next to the door with that "Please let me out of here you're dying I'm not!" look on her face and I just had to crawl back to bed and sleep some more and ignore her. I tried to make it up to her by throwing the toys she brought me across the bedroom floor but she wasn't amused. I got the "evil eye" quite a lot between her worried "Are you okay?" moments where she tried her best to nurse me back to health. Licking does not equal healing in people...I kept trying to explain this to her but she didn't get it.
Anyways, in the last few weeks (minus the week of illness) Wheezer has returned! Well almost. But yes it is true. The people loving, ready to play, fun little ball of fluff is coming back to me FINALLY after a long two year recovery from her near brush with death. She has started playing with my clients again. She has her favorites and is so excited to see them and she lets them PET HER without screaming and crawling around on the floor like she's dying. She somehow knows when they are in the waiting area and will sit next to the waiting room door until she can get out to greet them. She's letting people in my office give her treats and pet her. She even took her ball up to one of the ladies at work who previously, if she even said "Hi" to Wheezer, Wheezer growled, cowered and wet herself. I'm telling you all - Wheezer is making a come back and it's super exciting for me! :)
She's even doing new things such as, what I started out to tell you, climbing into tunnels!
Last week I had two of my little guys (0-3 population) and we were taking turns going through the tunnel in my office when all of the sudden Wheezer joined in on the fun, on her own! I just about died from shock. Not only was she going through the tunnel with my little guys she was letting them pet her, licking their hands, and taking her ball up to them to let them throw it to her. I might have shed a tear I was so happy. Maybe she will eventually become a therapy dog after all in her old age (Probably not but it's still not to late to dream.).
I think she was pretty proud of herself too. Sorry the pics a little blurry, she would hardly hold still long enough to get one with my phone.
