Day Three: Sunday. It was cold and I was very sick. We hiked out of the sheltered canyon into the windy, stormy valley. We went to "Heebegeby" crater, which was so windy that we had to double over to stand up, I had to brace myself to keep from getting blown over. Then we hiked Mosaic Canyon, and drove to the charcoal kilns, and then we took a long drive to find a place to camp, only to end up bush-whacking 3 miles across Death Valley to make camp in a little sheltered area by some hills. Yes, there was a rattlesnake that I almost stepped on - but I didn't and am still alive. Not many people can say they hiked across Death Valley and back and lived to tell about it ;-)
It was really a pretty place to camp. There were old tin cans, rusty old nails, and a sand-filled firepit where other people years ago had left their mark on the same spot where we camped. We just left four rocks at the four corners of where we anchored down our tent. Supper was Pasta - very yummy.
